Services - Project Implementation
Any new operation or any relocation requires careful and professional planning, organization, scheduling, coordination, and implementation. Activities range across facilities design and construction, manufacturing processes, raw materials or parts sourcing, human relations, labor relations, logistics and transportation, and financial and legal issues. Canup and Associates can provide significant levels of experience and expertise in all of these areas.
The most recent experience the firm has had in Project Implementation was with the State of Mississippi for the Nissan automotive assembly plant. The Principal provided "reverse consulting" services to the state to recruit Nissan to Canton, MS, and was instrumental in performing all of the negotiations and development of the Memorandum of Understanding for the state. Following Nissan's decision to locate in Mississippi, the state engaged Canup & Associates as Project Director, Nissan Implementation Team. In this capacity, the firm had overall responsibility for planning, organizing, managing, and directing all of the commitments made by the state to Nissan. This included oversight responsibility for $363.5 million in state funds, $41.4 million in Federal highway funds, and $20 million in local funds, totaling over $425 million for the project. The firm had management responsibility to ensure that roads, highways, water systems, sewer systems, and other critical elements of the state's commitments were operational and serviceable on dates certain as defined by Nissan. The project was on a highly fast-track schedule, and went from a raw site to Job One in just over 24 months. All commitments made by the state were delivered on time and within the authorized budget.
